PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — A total of 121 students from Sicsican Elementary School participated in the Circular Economy Roadshow, a strategic environmental education initiative led by Project Zacchaeus (PZC) through its Eco-Kolek program. The event was conducted in collaboration with Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) and the EU-PH Green Economy Partnership.
The roadshow serves as a key component of the Eco-Kolek model, focusing on institutionalizing waste management awareness at the primary education level to drive long-term behavioral change in the community.
Global Partnerships for Local Action
The partnership with PEMSEA and the EU-PH Green Economy Partnership underscores the international alignment of Puerto Princesa's waste recovery efforts. By integrating global standards for the circular economy into local school outreach, the program provides students with a technical understanding of resource recovery and the economic value of recycled materials.
During the sessions, the 121 participants were introduced to the "Waste-to-Resource" concept, learning how organized collection and proper segregation prevent plastic leakage into marine ecosystems.
Building a Foundation for Stewardship
The outreach at Sicsican Elementary School emphasizes the role of the youth in sustaining a "Green Culture." Students were encouraged to apply segregation practices within their households, supporting the work of the Eco Warriors in their barangay.
"Engaging 121 students in Sicsican is a vital step in scaling our impact," PZC officials stated. "By educating the youth, we are ensuring that the principles of the circular economy are embedded in the community's future leadership."
The success of the Sicsican Roadshow reinforces the commitment of PZC and its international partners to foster environmental resilience through inclusive and youth-led education initiatives.
