Nine dedicated Eco-Warriors recently took part in the free Theoretical Driving Course (TDC) offered by the Land Transportation Office (LTO), marking another important step in strengthening their skills and responsibilities under the Eco Kolek Project of Project Zacchaeus (PZC).
The TDC is a 15-hour program designed to instill not only the technical knowledge needed to drive but also the right mindset and discipline for road safety. The course emphasizes:
Safer Roads through responsible driving practices
Better Driver Attitude by shaping discipline and respect for traffic rules
Technical Understanding of road signs and markings
Sharper Driving Intuition for decision-making while on the road
The Eco-Warriors, who will soon serve as the main drivers and stewards of waste collection vehicles, recognize that this training goes beyond just earning a license. It prepares them for a bigger responsibility—collecting plastic waste across Puerto Princesa City and ensuring that operations under the Eco Kolek Project run efficiently and safely.
Upon completing the TDC and securing their student driving permits, the Eco-Warriors will move forward to apply for Non-Professional Driver’s Licenses, qualifying them to formally operate the garbage collection vehicles. These vehicles, made possible through the partnership of Project Zacchaeus and USAID’s Clean Cities Blue Ocean Program, will be vital in scaling up plastic collection and promoting a circular economy in the city.
This milestone not only empowers the Eco-Warriors with a new skill but also uplifts their dignity and strengthens their role as community leaders and environmental champions. By equipping them with proper training, the project ensures that sustainability efforts are anchored on both safety and professionalism.
