Eco Kolek Community Joins Earth Hour

On this year’s observance of Earth Hour, communities across the globe once again turned off their lights to symbolize a collective stand for the planet. But for Eco Kolek, Earth Hour is more than a symbolic act—it is a call to action.
“Tonight we are reminded that we all have a role to play to become a good steward of our planet,” said John Gastanes, underscoring the shared responsibility of individuals, communities, and organizations in protecting the Earth.
Representing Eco Kolek during this global movement are the professionalized waste pickers of Puerto Princesa, our Eco Warriors, who serve as champions in the fight against plastic pollution. Every day, they work tirelessly to collect plastic bottles and other waste materials that would otherwise end up in Palawan’s seas, threatening marine life and coastal communities.
Their presence during Earth Hour symbolizes the heart of the circular economy—where waste is not just collected, but transformed into opportunities for cleaner communities, healthier oceans, and more sustainable livelihoods.
As the lights dimmed across Puerto Princesa and the world, Eco Kolek stood as a beacon of hope: a reminder that small acts, when multiplied by millions, can create powerful change for our planet.
Together, we can keep Palawan’s oceans blue, its communities green, and its future sustainable. 🌱✨
