Eco Kolek Distributes Food Packs to 55 Eco Warriors in Puerto Princesa After Typhoon Tino
When Typhoon Tino struck Palawan, it devastated homes and livelihoods across the northern municipalities of El Nido, Roxas, Taytay, San Vicente, and Linapacan. While these communities continue their recovery, Eco Kolek also turned its attention to its own frontliners in Puerto Princesa City—the Eco Warriors—who were directly affected by the storm.

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — When Typhoon Tino battered Palawan, its winds and rains left behind more than damaged homes and disrupted livelihoods. It also tested the resilience of communities across the northern municipalities of El Nido, Roxas, Taytay, San Vicente, and Linapacan. While recovery efforts continue in those areas, another group of Palawan’s unsung heroes—the Eco Warriors of Puerto Princesa City—also faced the storm’s aftermath.
For years, Eco Warriors have been at the forefront of Eco Kolek’s mission: collecting and segregating waste, reducing plastic pollution, and protecting the environment. But when Typhoon Tino struck, their daily work was suddenly put on hold. With damaged surroundings and disrupted routines, many Eco Warriors found themselves unable to earn income, even as their families needed support more than ever.
To bridge this gap, Eco Kolek, with the generous sponsorship of the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) and Trinity Gym, distributed food packs to 55 active Eco Warriors. These packs contained essential supplies to sustain families while Eco Warriors were unable to work.
For the recipients, the distribution was more than just relief—it was recognition. It reminded them that their role as environmental stewards is valued, even in times of crisis. “We are used to serving the community by keeping it clean. This time, the community served us,” shared one Eco Warrior during the distribution.
The initiative highlighted three important truths:
• Immediate Aid Matters: Food packs provided timely support to families in need.
• Dignity in Service: Eco Warriors were recognized not only as workers but as vital contributors to Palawan’s resilience.
• Solidarity Across Palawan: Relief for Eco Warriors in Puerto Princesa connected their recovery to the broader struggles of northern municipalities hit hardest by the typhoon.
Eco Kolek expressed gratitude to UNDP and Trinity Gym, whose sponsorship made the distribution possible. Their support reflects the power of partnerships in disaster response, showing how local and international allies can come together to sustain communities.
As Palawan continues to recover from Typhoon Tino, Eco Kolek remains committed to supporting both environmental protection and community resilience. For the Eco Warriors, the food packs were a reminder that even in times of hardship, their work—and their well-being—matters.
