Eco Kolek Distributes Food Packs to 55 Eco Warriors in Puerto Princesa After Typhoon Tino
When Typhoon Tino struck Palawan, it devastated homes and livelihoods across the northern municipalities of El Nido, Roxas, Taytay, San Vicente, and Linapacan. While these communities continue their recovery, Eco Kolek also turned its attention to its own frontliners in Puerto Princesa City—the Eco Warriors—who were directly affected by the storm.

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — Fifty-five active Eco Warriors under Eco Kolek received food packs following the devastation brought by Typhoon Tino, which struck Palawan and severely affected several northern municipalities including El Nido, Roxas, Taytay, San Vicente, and Linapacan.
The distribution was carried out in Puerto Princesa City, where Eco Warriors are based, to provide immediate relief to waste collectors whose livelihoods were disrupted by the storm. Eco Warriors, recognized as frontliners in environmental protection and solid waste management, were unable to continue their daily work due to the typhoon’s impact.
Eco Kolek, with support from the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) and Trinity Gym, organized the relief effort to ensure that Eco Warriors and their families had access to essential food supplies during the recovery period.
Relief Distribution
• Each of the 55 Eco Warriors received food packs containing basic necessities.
• The initiative aimed to sustain families while Eco Warriors were temporarily unable to earn income.
• The distribution highlighted the importance of supporting environmental workers who play a vital role in community resilience and sustainability.
Broader Context
Typhoon Tino caused widespread damage across Northern Palawan, leaving many households displaced and livelihoods disrupted. While relief operations continue in municipalities such as El Nido, Roxas, Taytay, San Vicente, and Linapacan, Eco Kolek emphasized the need to also support its Eco Warriors in Puerto Princesa City, who contribute daily to reducing plastic pollution and promoting responsible waste management.
Moving Forward
Eco Kolek stated that it will continue to coordinate with partners and local stakeholders to support recovery efforts in Palawan. The group emphasized that sustaining the Eco Warriors is essential to ensuring that environmental protection and community resilience remain strong even in the aftermath of natural disasters.
