PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — Project Zacchaeus (PZC), advancing its mandate to establish sustainable urban environments, has formally commenced the localized rollout of its Circular Economy Program in Purok Mahogany, Barangay Sicsican. Over a strategic three-day period from February 18 to 20, the Eco Kolek program successfully enrolled a total of 101 households and 21 business establishments, securing their active commitment as official environmental partners.
This intensive deployment serves as the critical operational groundwork for the broader Model Purok Initiative. The initiative is a targeted, community-driven framework designed to permanently institutionalize proper waste segregation, enhance plastic recovery rates, and embed responsible disposal practices directly at the household and commercial levels, creating a replicable standard for environmental compliance.
A joint team of six Eco Kolek administrative staff and four professionalized Eco Warriors conducted house-to-house information drives. The initiative focused on educating residents on circular economy principles, specifically the identification of recyclable materials and the implementation of socio-behavioral change strategies to strengthen environmental discipline.
Establishing operational frameworks
Beyond public education, the deployment prioritized data collection to establish sustainable logistics for the community. The field team mapped household clusters and designed systematic collection routes. This operational mapping ensures that future waste recovery efforts by the Eco Warriors are executed with maximum efficiency and minimal resource overlap.
To formalize the community's commitment, enrolled households and commercial spaces were tagged with official Eco Kolek partner stickers.
According to the program's operations office, securing 122 active partnerships within a three-day period reflects strong community buy-in. This participation rate establishes a solid baseline for the sustained execution of the circular economy model in Purok Mahogany, providing PZC and its stakeholders with a replicable framework for systemic waste management expansion across other districts in Puerto Princesa.
