PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — Sixty-four students from Irawan National High School participated in a Circular Economy Roadshow aimed at mobilizing the youth sector in the local effort to combat plastic pollution. The initiative was spearheaded by Project Zacchaeus (PZC), through its Eco-Kolek program, in collaboration with the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) and the EU-PH Green Economy Partnership.

The roadshow serves as a technical orientation designed to transition community perspectives from traditional waste disposal to a sustainable circular economy model.

Strategic International Alignment

The partnership with PEMSEA and the EU-PH Green Economy Partnership ensures that the educational outreach in Irawan aligns with international standards for marine conservation and resource management. By engaging 64 high school students, the program aims to create a baseline of environmental literacy that supports the professionalized waste recovery operations of the Eco Warriors.

During the session, students were oriented on the "Waste-to-Resource" framework, focusing on the economic potential of properly segregated materials and the importance of reducing plastic leakage into local waterways.

Youth as Environmental Stewards

The roadshow at Irawan National High School emphasized the role of the youth as influencers within their households. Participants were encouraged to lead segregation efforts at home, facilitating a more efficient collection process for the Eco-Kolek program.

"By engaging 64 students at Irawan National High School, we are building a more resilient foundation for our environmental advocacies," PZC officials stated. "These young leaders are essential in ensuring that circular economy practices become a standard part of community life in Puerto Princesa."

The successful completion of the Irawan roadshow marks another milestone in PZC’s mission to foster inclusive and sustainable environmental solutions through multi-sectoral partnerships.
