Project Zacchaeus (PZC) Eco Kolek successfully conducted a key coordination meeting with the Local Government Unit of Barangay Sicsican, reinforcing their partnership and detailing the strategic work plan for the coming months. The meeting, held at the Barangay Hall, was led by Honorable Barangay Councilor Rhoy Dalumpines, Chairperson of the Committee on Environment, and aimed to secure full LGU support for scaling sustainable waste management efforts.
Collaborative Strategy for Environmental Protection
The PZC-Eco Kolek team presented its comprehensive project targets and detailed work plan, focusing on activities essential for embedding the circular economy model at the community level. The proposed activities include:
Barangay Mapping: Identifying critical waste collection points, partner establishments, and high-volume waste areas to optimize collection routes.
Socio-Economic Profiling: Gathering data on households and institutions to better tailor the program's services and recruitment efforts.
Recruitment and Training: Formalizing and training new Eco-Warriors to expand the collection workforce.
Sectoral Integration: Formalizing the program's partnership with local public schools and business establishments.
LGU Pledges Full Support and Strategic Expansion
Councilor Dalumpines actively engaged with the presented plan, offering valuable insights and immediate support. He committed to assisting the team with community mobilization, mapping, profiling activities, and the recruitment of new Eco-Warriors.
Most notably, Kgd. Dalumpines shared the barangay's own ambitious environmental goals and pledged to support the Eco-Warriors by committing to prioritize them for financial assistance and other government benefits whenever available. Recognizing the importance of education and infrastructure, he highlighted several key areas for collaboration:
School Support: Proposing that Eco Kolek provide additional garbage bins to the barangay's public schools, which serve approximately 3,300 students.
Business Compliance: Sharing his proposal to the Sangguniang Barangay (Barangay Council) to require all businesses to partner with Eco Kolek as a prerequisite for the issuance of business permits, dramatically expanding the program's reach.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from the barangay to collaborate with PZC on an upcoming community cleanup drive. This coordination successfully established a shared framework, ensuring that the advancement of environmental protection and sustainable waste management practices in Barangay Sicsican is a shared responsibility between the LGU and Eco Kolek.
